Perhaps the most overlooked tool in pulling a great shot is the tamper. While the goal of a good tamp (30lbs of even pressure) can be exceedingly challenging with the cheapo plastic tamper that comes with many machines, a good tamper can make this task much more consistent and easier to achieve.
The different handle shapes are generally a form of personal preference while the base options (flat, curved, rippled, c-flat, c-ripple...you get the idea) each change how the water enters, flows, and interacts with the puck. Our recommendation for beginners is a curved base or a c-flat base, as they tend to be more forgiving to tamping technique inconsistencies.

Reg Barber Short Polished Aluminum Tamper Handle
$37.00Reg Barber Short Polished Aluminum Tamper Handle
This beautiful coffee tamper tool is hand polished for it’s mirror like finish. Finished with a beautiful RB logo on top.
Reg Barber is one of the premier tamper manufactures in the world and we are proud to offer them to Venia Coffee customers. We are the only store that we are aware of in the United States to offer the handles and bases separately. Because we offer them this way, if you already own a Reg Barber tamper and change/upgrade espresso machines, you can simply replace the base with the correct size for your new machine and do not need to purchase an entirely new tamper setup. You can also change the type of handle if you want a new look or feel.
{Note: This is the handle only and a Reg Barber Tamper Base is required}

Espro Dillinger Tamper | 58mm Convex Hardened Stainless Steel
$84.95The Dillinger 58 mm Convex Hardened Stainless Steel Tamper Is the Most Durable Tamper Available
Espro designed the Dillinger espresso tamper to stand a lifetime of abuse on a busy coffee bar. Most stainless steel tampers are not hardened and over time get dinged and dented. Three times harder than normal stainless steel wasn't enough, so they coated the Dillinger in their 'Black Diamond" coating that is over five times harder than a regular tamper.
The Dillinger is very well balanced and tips the scales at just under one pound and proudly made in the USA!
