If you have been in the market for a Technivorm coffeemaker, but just haven't wanted to spend  over $300, we have great news for you.  We are proud to offer one of the very few SCAA certified drip coffeemakers, the Bonavita BV-1800TH.  Controlling both brew time and temperature in a similar fashion to commercial brewers, the BV-1800TH produces coffee that is far superior to a traditional drip brewer.

How is a Bonavita different?

What makes Bonavita brewers different than a Krups, Cuisinart, or Mr. Coffee?  First off, almost every other home drip coffee maker on the market starts brewing with water that is well below the ideal 196 to 204 degrees needed to extract an ideal cup.  Then, throughout the course of the brew cycle, the water continues to increase in temperature until drastically over temperature water is being dumped onto the brew bed.  This erratic temperature swing generally makes coffee taste bitter or astringent. Despite all the bells and whistles that make some of these department store machines cost hundreds of dollars, the parts that make the coffee are based off of the same poor design...they might look amazing, but the coffee from these machines sure don't taste all that great.

Bonavita Coffee Maker Heating Element

In addition to proper temperature, time is also of paramount importance when brewing coffee.  The Bonavita consistently brews between the ideal 5-6 minute mark.

The shower head (where the water sprays out over the bed of coffee) is also designed to evenly saturate and extract all the coffee, not just the middle like most home drip machines. In fact, in our testing of the machines, the Bonavita BV-1800 (Glass Carafe) and BV-1800TH (Thermal Carafe) did a better job at evenly wetting the coffee bed than did the Technivorm machines we have tested.

Bonavita Shower Head Design

Brewing Parameters:

We recommend using between 75-85 grams of ground coffee when making a full 8 cup pot (40oz).  A tablespoon of ground coffee roughly holds 7 grams of coffee.  Use a coarse, auto-drip grind.  We recommend using a quality burr grinder, not a whirly-bird style grinder (however, a whirly-bird blade grinder can be used).

Features:

  • 1400 Watt heater raises water to ideal temperature 205°F / 96°C).
  • Engineered for precise water and coffee grounds contact time.
  • Shower head designed for complete saturation and optimal extraction.
  • Brews 8 cups (5 oz. cups)
  • Stainless steel thermal carafe keeps coffee hot.
  • 12" Tall, 10.75" Long, 6.5" Wide
  • 2 year manufacture warranty

This thing makes some damn good coffee. What it lacks in bells and whistles, it makes up for in brew quality.

    Very Good!

Review by KDS on May 8, 2013

Excellent experience with Venia Coffee. Followed through even though the coffee maker was on back order. Coffee maker makes excellent coffee, as long as you start with good beans, which Venia provided.

    TEMPERATURE MATTERS

Review by Bob on May 8, 2013

The first thing I did was put the same amount of preground coffee and water in my Bonavita and my old drip maker so that the only difference in the coffee wass the pot. The Bonavita prodced a smother and less bitter cup of coffee The difference in brewing temperature made a big difference.

    AMAZING

Review by Angela on April 9, 2013

I am a convert from the BUNN and will never go back!! Every bean that I put in this thing tastes amazing and unlike the last cup I had out of the BUNN. Never biter, even when way too strong! The trickyest thing was figuring out how much beans to put in because it is more than you would think and every blend is different. Shipping was great, faster than I anticipated for it being free. The beans were awesome and was roasted just before they shipped. I had kinda thought that they were just pawning off the old stuff but the sticker posts the roast date! Will be getting beans from here in the future too thanks to their fantastic employee that thought of free beans!!

    LOVE THIS!!!

Review by Melissa on February 1, 2012

I spent a lot of time researching coffee makers. Of course I looked at a Technivorm but couldn't make myself pay $300. I went ahead and ordered the thermal Bonavita for 1/2 the price. The first thing I did was run it with just water at 5pm. Before I went to bed at 11pm it was still hot. It makes a full pot in about 6 minutes. The coffee maker is small and I like the way it looks. It just makes good coffee. No fancy clocks or settings. So less to go wrong. Until I got this coffee maker I didn't know I was drinking such bad coffee. Also I had not ordered from Venia Coffee before. They were great. Shipping was free and they sent me a free sample of coffee. So all around this was a great purchase. Thanks
