Invented in 1933, the Moka Pot has become an icon of coffee and modern design. Ground coffee is placed in the middle coffee basket, water is placed in the lower chamber. When heated on the stove-top pressure builds and pushes hot water up through coffee grounds and into the upper chamber. Moka pots are not espresso makers, as they are sometimes mistakenly referred. However, because they brew coffee under pressure they can bring out different flavors than the same coffee brewed as a traditional drip.
